Concertagenda Baloji

Baloji is a man of many talents; a rapper, singer, poet, film-maker and fashion designer - none of these talents go to waste. He began his musical journey as a member of the Belgian hip hop group Starflam but quickly emerged as a multidisciplinary artist. He was born in Congo but grew up in Belgium and weaves this double identity musically into a unique mix of afrobeat, hip-hop, electronica and Congolese rhythms, winning Damon Albarn as a fan in the process. Baloji uses his personal stories to address, both sharply and more subtly, universal (social) themes such as identity and culture but also desire, loss and hope. And he doesn't stop there; he creates complete worlds which he further explores in stunning videos, full of symbolism. In 2023, he even ventured into a feature film - Augure - which won awards at Cannes and was Belgium's entry for the Oscars. His return to the stage will bring him to Gent Jazz this summer. Expect an immersive experience in which music, imagery and performance are seamlessly blended.
