Makaya McCraven is the definition of a wonderboy and there are few who can match him as a musical innovator. The drummer-composer-producer effortlessly pushes the boundaries of the past, present and future with his unique blend of jazz, hip-hop and electronica. Hypnotic soundscapes, pulsing drum beats and endless trippy grooves form the backbone of his multi-layered vision of what 'jazz’ should be in the 21st century. He draws inspiration from the spiritual jazz of Alice Coltrane and the beats of J Dilla and, with each new album, he manages to once again redefine his own music. He was described by The New York Times as "the best argument for jazz’s vitality” and has been nominated for no fewer than three Grammys for his celebrated album 'In These Times’ (2022), on which he plumbed the roots of Afro-American music. As for live performances? A mind-blowing, compelling trip that hovers between tradition and futurism.
