Despite the adage 'Nobody sings Dylan like Dylan’, you could fill libraries with Dylan covers. In all sizes, genres and - above all - species weight, the master is covered. In honour of Bob's 80th birthday, Stef Kamil Carlens streamed a pre-recorded concert with a selection from Dylan's oeuvre on 24 May 2021. The joy of playing splashed off the screen and virtual attendees praised the surprising arrangements in unison. One lost listener even heard a reference to 'Live at Budokan’ in a reggae-like 'Shelter from the Storm’. Anyone who saw the live stream 'Bob, Till We Drop - A Midnight Special (Stef Kamil Carlens & The Gates of Eden play Bob Dylan)’ back then was undoubtedly already convinced. It was a true boyhood dream of Carlens to tour with the oeuvre of grandmaster Bob Dylan, and in 2023, it was finally here with a successful tour in Belgium and the Netherlands. Those who missed it now get a second chance at Gent Jazz!
