Inspired by pioneers such as Dorothy Ashby and Alice Coltrane, American Brandee Younger has one aim: to redefine the harp. By collaborating with the likes of Makaya McCraven, Common and Pharoah Sanders, she is able to showcase the instrument in contemporary music, balancing between classic and avant-garde, with a strong appetite for experimentation. And it has not gone unnoticed: Younger was the first black woman to be nominated for a Grammy in the Best Instrumental Composition category. Her latest album 'Brand New Life’ - an ode to her predecessors - was very well received and her live performances are also applauded as hypnotic experiences which blend new and old.
