About Michelle David & The True-tones

Growing up in a New York church, Michelle David began singing at the age of four and joined her first group just a year later. Before relocating to Europe, she toured the world with Broadway productions, starred in stage shows such as The Sound of Motown and Mahalia, and recorded with artists including Diana Ross and Michael Bolton.

Together with Paul Willemsen, Onno Smit and Bas Bouma, she founded Michelle David & The True-Tones, which emerged from the acclaimed The Gospel Sessions project. The group evolved into a band with a distinctive sound rooted in gospel, yet branching into soul, funk, Afrobeat, and rhythm & blues.

Over the years, the group has released a series of acclaimed albums, including (The Gospel Sessions Vol. 1-4Truth & SoulBrothers & Sisters), earning accolades for Album of the Year (BBC 6 Music), Album of the Month (FIP) and an Edison nomination.

On 27 February 2026, they unveiled their most personal work to date: Soul Woman - an album reflecting on identity, healing, and growth, inspired by the legacy of Bobby Womack, Curtis Mayfield, and D’Angelo.

Whether on stage or in the studio, Michelle David & The True-Tones radiate joy, power, and groove. Their music uplifts, empowers and connects.
