About Snarky Puppy
What began as a friends’ project formed around bassist and composer Michael League, has grown into one of the most influential instrumental collectives of the past two decades: Snarky Puppy. Five Grammy Awards later, their guiding principle remains strikingly clear: music is a collective endeavour — and it must be alive. Not confined to a single genre, but flowing fluidly between jazz, funk, soul, gospel, fusion, and all that falls between. Joy and togetherness are always at the centre.
Snarky Puppy never stops evolving. "Nothing should sound like what came before” seems to be their unwritten rule. This resonates clearly throughout their discography, and with Somni (2025) — their ambitious collaboration with the Metropole Orchestra — they take a bold step forward. Recorded live in Utrecht over three days and in front of an audience, Somni extends their range to symphonic proportions. The more, the merrier! Live performance remains at the heart of Snarky Puppy; on stage they are a finely-tuned organism: individual virtuosity always in service of the collective, fuelled by sheer enjoyment. There is much to analyse, but even more to feel - this is, after all, a collective of virtuoso musicians. Dive in!
