Pianist Nikolaj Svaneborg and drummer Jonas Kardyb first met in Aalborg in 2013, but only began playing together six years later in Aarhus. Their musical connection was immediate, allowing them to compose and improvise almost telepathically. Nikolaj’s delicate style grew from playing quietly on a harsh home piano and was shaped by Denmark’s Højskole singing tradition and Jan Johansson’s Jazz På Svenska. Jonas, by contrast, came from blues, folk, and Americana, influenced by the Tønder Folk Festival near his hometown. During the pandemic, they discovered Gondwana Records online and later released their third album, Over Tage (2022), with the label’s support. Since then, they’ve toured internationally, bringing their open, genre-free approach to audiences worldwide. Their music emphasizes connection: in their song Freudesang, they invite audiences to whistle along, a simple, shared experience that works everywhere from Romania to Canada. With Superkilen released in 2024, their reach is set to grow even further.
